Bring a mate sessions were once again held with club members offering up a kart to a mate to have a go in a controlled environment. The idea is raising interest in karting with potential new Karter’s getting the racing bug.
Remember, we will run bring a mate at October club day, so get a mate involved.
New Karter’s included Sisters Grace Dunmore, Ella Dunmore and Daniel Findlay competing for the first time on P-Plates and doing a fine job completing all races and improving with the help from a few of the experienced club members.
Results:
Jett Rendell was the sole Cadet 12 entry but was certainly the most improved over the day showing consistency and improving his driving as the day went on.
KA3 Senior light and Medium was taken out by Jason Douglas putting in fast laps, looking forward to the arrival of his new kart in time for Portland Country Series. Luke Thurston was solid in 2nd place and Greg Ord was the sole medium driver who was kindly offered a drive by Mal Mason.
KA4 Junior class included sisters Grace Dunmore and Ella Dunmore with the ever fast Zaiden Barry taking out the races, while putting in some solid testing laps for up-coming country series.
Shayne Penhall was too good on the day, taking out Tag restricted light in all heats and the final. John Page dropped the lead-weight to run light class, putting up a good battle in the second heat putting the pressure on Shayne. Daniel Findlay progressed through the day, continually making set-up changes and learning his race craft. Overall placing was Daniel Findlay in 4th, John Page in 3rd, with Bill West 2nd and Shayne Penhall 1st.
Tag restricted medium welcomed Michael Beveridge from Swan Hill (thanks for making the effort) with Ray Dumesny taking out the final with solid laps, Andrew Calvert 3rd, and 4th was Ian Klauss making massive improvements in lap times over the day, while doing his time on his P-Plates.
Remember, 28th October is club day, bring a mate, get organised, get entered and let’s go racing!
August and September events
We've had a few people asking, and we may have accidentally caused some confusion, so to clarify:
Saturday 18 August
Track is closed for private vintage kart practice
Sunday 26 August will be another unofficial "test and tune/fun" day
This will only be for license holders/members - we have not organised a bring a mate permit this time
Kick off from 10ish
Sunday 30 September WILL go ahead as a club day - rain, hail or shine.
We will also organise a Bring a Mate permit if you have anyone interested.
The AGM will be held that morning.
Track closed THIS Saturday
Please note: The track will be closed THIS Saturday Aug 18 for a private practice event.Test and Tune fun day - Saturday July 28
Learn some better lines on the track, learn some new settings on the kart, and just turn up and have some fun.
Race licenses, Practice licenses , Historic karts , Bring a mate*
$10 entry - Includes BBQ lunch
Practice from 10:00am
BBQ Lunch around 12:30
Timed activities from 1:00
Activities will be dependent on number of entrants, but may include: Fastest lap track attack, most consistent over 10 laps, par time, junior and senior combined team time and most improved time.
* We are still checking details of bring a mate with this event type and will confirm as soon as possible.Ballarat club day changes
We are aware that the current method of requiring 15 pre-entries by Wednesday night is not working as intended; we have ended up cancelling too many events.
As a result we are changing our calendar to have less events - but those that are planned will go ahead in all but exceptional circumstances.
We have a mix of racers in our club
There are local new drivers who need club day practice and experience.
There are karters who run bigger events (VCS, AKC etc) that rarely have time for a club day.
There are many E license holders that we rarely see, and you are part of our club too.
There are several members who still have a Yamaha S that we rarely see.
There are local drivers who don't travel to other clubs.
This makes it very difficult to form a club day and give the new racers the experience they need - it also hurts ability to attract potential new members at a club day.
We are looking at several changes for the rest of 2018 to test for 2019
June club day will NOT run
We know several of you will go to Warrnambool for practice for the VCS, and we encourage all members to come down so we are together and support neighbouring VCS clubs.
We are looking at options for July to support all our different license holder types (Practice, historic, yamahas etc)
This will likely be a "test and tune day" - but we have options these days with the timing system for some friendly/fun winter games
Plans for Aug - Nov are still be finalised, but we are looking at 2-3 club days in that period with the better weather.
We are looking at what options we have to modify the club day format to be more inclusive of our different member types.
If you have any thoughts let us know - either publicly via Facebook, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Its your club - and we want to see your kart on the track instead of home in the shed.
